What's Happening?
French engineering firm GTT has been contracted by Samsung Heavy Industries to design tanks for two new liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers for Celsius Tankers. Each vessel will have a capacity of 180,000 cubic meters and will feature GTT's Mark III
Flex membrane containment system. The order was placed in early 2026, with the delivery of the vessels expected between 2028 and 2029. This project underscores the ongoing demand for advanced LNG transport solutions as global energy needs evolve.
Why It's Important?
The development of these LNG carriers reflects the growing importance of LNG as a cleaner energy source in the global energy mix. GTT's involvement highlights the technological advancements in LNG containment systems, which are crucial for safe and efficient transport. As countries seek to reduce carbon emissions, LNG is increasingly seen as a transitional fuel, supporting the shift from coal and oil to more sustainable energy sources. This project could influence future investments in LNG infrastructure and technology.
