What's Happening?
The DeKalb Public Library is offering a free self-defense workshop for teens on April 22. The workshop, titled 'Inform Encounters,' is designed for students in grades six through twelve and will be held in the library's Teen Room. Participants will learn
various self-defense skills, including physical techniques, awareness strategies, and verbal de-escalation methods. The session will be conducted by Kung Fu teacher Arthur Berry, and no prior registration is required for attendance.
Why It's Important?
This initiative by the DeKalb Public Library is important as it empowers young individuals with skills to protect themselves in potentially dangerous situations. In an era where personal safety is a growing concern, especially for teenagers, such workshops provide valuable education and confidence. The program also reflects the library's role in community engagement and education beyond traditional book lending, addressing contemporary issues faced by youth.
