Marine Biologics, based in Berkeley, California, has launched a new seaweed powder ingredient called SeaTex. This product is designed to replace multi-ingredient gum stacks in food and beverage formulations. SeaTex is sourced from brown seaweed and aims
to suspend and stabilize nutritional ingredients such as fibers, minerals, and bioactives. Additionally, it can bind and structure fats and lipids. The development of SeaTex was facilitated by MacroLink, an artificial intelligence engine created for ingredient design. Patrick Griffin, CEO of Marine Biologics, highlighted the potential of seaweed as a renewable alternative ingredient, noting that previous production methods led to highly refined ingredients that consumers are less interested in. The new processing capabilities of Marine Biologics aim to meet consumer demands for cleaner labels.
