What's Happening?
A survey conducted by SHL reveals a significant trust gap among U.S. workers regarding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the workplace. Only 27% of respondents fully trust their employers to use AI responsibly,
while 59% believe AI exacerbates bias. More than half of the surveyed workers prefer human involvement over algorithms in reviewing job applications, evaluating performance, and making career-impacting decisions. Despite concerns, nearly half of the respondents are willing to upskill for an AI-enabled workplace, indicating a recognition of AI's importance for career success.
Why It's Important?
The trust gap in AI usage among U.S. workers highlights critical challenges for companies integrating AI into their operations. Concerns about bias and the erosion of human touch could affect employee morale and trust in employers, potentially impacting productivity and retention. As AI becomes more prevalent in hiring and performance evaluations, companies must address these concerns to maintain a positive workplace culture. The willingness of workers to upskill for AI readiness suggests an opportunity for employers to provide training and support, fostering a workforce equipped to navigate AI-driven environments.
