What's Happening?
Dialog Axiata, a telecommunications company in Sri Lanka, has introduced a new QR-based payment solution called 'GanuDenu QR' for its mobile money service. This service allows users to send and receive money directly using QR codes through Dialog Finance
and eZ Cash accounts. The solution is interoperable across the LankaPay network, facilitating transactions across all Central Bank of Sri Lanka accredited banks, non-bank financial institutions, and fintech platforms. The Central Bank of Sri Lanka and LankaPay have agreed to waive service charges on transactions up to LKR5,000 (approximately US$15.90). The service aims to support various use cases, such as sharing expenses and settling payments, and is expected to contribute to Sri Lanka's transition towards a cashless and digitally inclusive society.
