What's Happening?
The Delfina Foundation in London, supported by Miami-based collectors Jorge and Darlene Pérez, is launching a new artist residency program aimed at Latin American and Caribbean artists. This initiative will provide four fully funded residencies over the next two years. The program is designed to prioritize artists from underrepresented countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as those from related diaspora communities in the United States. The Delfina Foundation, located near Victoria station, has previously hosted over 550 residencies for artists and arts professionals from 95 countries. Applications for the first two residency opportunities, scheduled for autumn 2026 and winter 2027, are now open.
Why It's Important?
This residency program is significant
as it fosters cultural exchange and artistic development between the UK, the Americas, and diaspora communities. By focusing on underrepresented artists, the program aims to diversify the artistic landscape and provide opportunities for artists who may not have had access to such resources. The involvement of Jorge and Darlene Pérez, who are influential figures in the Miami art scene, underscores the importance of private patronage in supporting the arts. Their previous contributions to the Pérez Art Museum Miami and other cultural institutions highlight their commitment to promoting art and culture on an international scale.
What's Next?
The next steps involve the selection process for the residency applicants, with the first residencies commencing in autumn 2026. The program will likely attract a diverse range of artists, leading to new collaborations and projects that could influence the global art scene. The partnership with the Jorge M. Pérez Collection and El Espacio 23 will provide additional mentoring and networking opportunities for the selected artists, potentially leading to further exhibitions and cultural exchanges.
