What's Happening?
Gunnison Copper has launched a significant district-wide drilling campaign at its Gunnison Copper Project located in Arizona's Cochise Mining District. This initiative follows a successful public offering that raised C$34.5 million. The campaign involves
drilling up to 120 holes over approximately 42,000 meters, aimed at supporting ongoing Prefeasibility Study (PFS) activities, resource expansion, metallurgical optimization, and resource conversion. The drilling is fully contracted, with mobilization of drill rigs expected to commence soon. The campaign includes metallurgical optimization drilling, which will involve 36 holes for 10,000 meters, and resource drilling, which will cover 84 holes across 32,000 meters. The objectives are to upgrade inferred mineral resources to measured and indicated categories, define the limits of mineralization, and evaluate the continuation of the mineralized system at depth.
Why It's Important?
This drilling campaign is crucial for Gunnison Copper as it seeks to expand its resource base and optimize metallurgical processes, which are essential for the company's Prefeasibility Study and future mining operations. By increasing the domestic copper supply, Gunnison Copper aims to strengthen its position in the U.S. copper market, which is vital for various industries, including construction and electronics. The successful public offering and subsequent drilling campaign highlight investor confidence in the project and its potential to contribute significantly to the U.S. copper supply chain. The expansion and optimization efforts could lead to increased production capacity, potentially impacting copper prices and availability in the market.
What's Next?
Gunnison Copper plans to begin drilling with two rigs and will expand to six rigs upon the completion of a new core processing and storage facility, expected in Q3 2026. The company will continue its metallurgical testwork and engineering studies to support the PFS and permitting initiatives. As the drilling progresses, Gunnison Copper will focus on identifying new mineralized zones and testing extensions of known mineralization. The results of this campaign could lead to further investment and development opportunities, positioning Gunnison Copper as a key player in the U.S. copper industry.
