What's Happening?
Sanrio, renowned for its Hello Kitty brand, has announced the launch of Sanrio Games, a self-publishing label aimed at releasing approximately 10 titles over the next three years. The initiative seeks to create new connections between its character IP
and global fans. The first title, Sanrio Party Land, is a party game set for a global release on the Switch and Switch 2 in fall 2026. Sanrio plans to integrate games with existing assets like theme parks and merchandise, rather than treating them as standalone entertainment. This move is part of Sanrio's 10-year vision to become a global IP platform provider, with games as a core pillar.
Why It's Important?
Sanrio's venture into self-publishing marks a strategic shift in the company's approach to its intellectual property. By developing games in-house, Sanrio aims to strengthen its brand presence and diversify its revenue streams. This initiative could significantly impact the gaming industry by introducing new IPs and expanding the market for character-driven games. The integration of games with Sanrio's existing assets may enhance customer engagement and loyalty, offering a unique entertainment experience. This development reflects broader industry trends where companies leverage multimedia platforms to maximize their brand's reach and influence.
