The Unicode Consortium has proposed nine new emoji, including a pickle and a cracking face, which are expected to be approved and available on devices by 2027. This proposal, made in October 2025, initially
included a squinting face, which was later replaced by the cracking face in January. The proposed emoji list also features a leftward and rightward thumb sign gesture, a monarch butterfly, a lighthouse, a meteor, an eraser, and a net with a handle. The Unicode Consortium, responsible for the creation and approval of emoji, typically approves new emoji once a year, with the approved set usually appearing on devices the following spring. The latest set of emoji, introduced in Unicode 17.0 in 2025, included an orca, landslide, trombone, fight cloud, distorted face, ballet dancers, treasure chest, and Sasquatch.
