What's Happening?
Deezer has introduced a new tool designed to identify AI-generated music across various streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, and others. This tool, announced on Thursday, allows users to scan their playlists for AI-generated tracks, supporting
27 languages and covering 20 popular platforms. The move positions Deezer as a proactive player in the music industry, addressing concerns over the use of copyrighted material in AI music and potential fraud in streaming systems. The company reports that 44% of new music uploads to its platform are AI-generated, with 75,000 such tracks added daily. Despite this, AI-generated music accounts for only 1-3% of total streams, with 85% flagged as fraudulent and demonetized.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of Deezer's AI music detection tool highlights the growing challenge of managing AI-generated content in the music industry. As AI-generated music becomes more prevalent, concerns about copyright infringement and fraudulent streaming practices are increasing. Deezer's proactive approach could set a precedent for other streaming services, potentially leading to industry-wide changes in how AI music is managed. This development is significant for artists, record labels, and consumers, as it addresses transparency and fairness in music streaming. By offering this tool, Deezer may attract users who value authenticity and transparency in their music consumption.
What's Next?
Deezer plans to continue refining its AI detection capabilities and may update supplier policies or remove AI-generated content, following the example of platforms like Bandcamp. The company is also offering its AI detection technology to rival platforms, which could lead to broader adoption of similar tools across the industry. As AI-generated music continues to rise, other streaming services may feel pressured to implement similar measures to maintain credibility and user trust. The music industry may also see increased discussions around regulations and standards for AI-generated content.
