What's Happening?
Baker Hughes has entered into a 60-month services agreement with Petrobras to provide critical turbomachinery support across Brazil's offshore production and refining operations. The contract involves maintenance, repair, and engineering advisory services for
up to 64 aeroderivative gas turbines, including LM2500 and LM6000 units. These turbines are deployed across approximately 19 floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessels and at the Replan refinery in Paulínia, São Paulo. The agreement, which began in February 2026, is being executed through Baker Hughes' service center in Petrópolis, Rio de Janeiro. This facility, established in 2010, offers a range of turbomachinery services such as disassembly, inspection, and reassembly. Baker Hughes plans to expand the center's capabilities by adding advanced grinding technologies to enhance equipment performance and lifecycle management.
Why It's Important?
This agreement highlights Baker Hughes' commitment to supporting Brazil's energy sector and its strategic relationship with Petrobras. By enhancing the reliability and operational efficiency of Petrobras' offshore and refining operations, Baker Hughes is playing a crucial role in strengthening Brazil's energy supply chain. The expansion of the service center's capabilities is expected to bolster Brazil's local supply chain and support workforce development. This deal underscores the importance of lifecycle services and reliability-focused operations in Brazil's offshore sector, where FPSO-based developments are central to production growth. The collaboration between Baker Hughes and Petrobras is significant for the continued investment in Brazil's energy infrastructure and the advancement of its offshore production capabilities.
What's Next?
Baker Hughes plans to further expand the capabilities of its service center in Petrópolis, which will include the addition of advanced grinding technologies. This expansion aims to improve equipment performance and lifecycle management, thereby enhancing the overall efficiency of Petrobras' operations. The strengthening of Brazil's local supply chain and workforce development are also anticipated outcomes of this expansion. As the agreement progresses, it is likely to foster deeper collaboration between Baker Hughes and Petrobras, potentially leading to further innovations and improvements in Brazil's offshore energy sector.
