What's Happening?
VAALCO Energy has announced promising initial results from its offshore drilling campaign in Gabon. The company successfully drilled and completed the Etame 14H development well in the Etame field's Main Fault Block, encountering approximately 325 meters
of net pay in Gamba reservoir sands. The well has shown better-than-expected porosity and permeability, with initial production rates reaching approximately 4,850 barrels per day. Following this success, VAALCO has mobilized its drilling rig to the Ebouri platform to begin work on the EEBOM-5H development well. Additionally, VAALCO is advancing efforts to restore production at the Baobab field offshore Côte d’Ivoire, with the Baobab FPSO returning to location after refurbishment. The company aims to restart production by the end of the second quarter of 2026.
Why It's Important?
The developments in VAALCO Energy's offshore drilling campaign are significant for the company's strategic growth in West Africa. The successful drilling results and planned production restart at the Baobab field are expected to enhance VAALCO's production capacity and reserve additions. This aligns with the company's broader focus on optimizing existing assets and advancing offshore development opportunities. The increased production capacity could bolster VAALCO's financial performance and market position, potentially leading to increased investor confidence and further investment in the region's energy sector.
What's Next?
VAALCO Energy plans to continue executing its 2026 capital program, focusing on optimizing existing assets and advancing offshore development opportunities. The company will proceed with additional workovers to support incremental production and aims to complete the reconnection of risers and subsea infrastructure at the Baobab field. Stakeholders, including investors and regional partners, will likely monitor the progress of these initiatives closely, as successful execution could lead to further expansion and investment opportunities in West Africa's energy sector.
