What's Happening?
Reservoir, a California-based farm robotics incubator, is expanding its operations with a new campus in Central Valley and a three-year partnership with Western Growers, which includes a $1.5 million investment.
The partnership aims to enhance Reservoir's shared R&D space for ag robotics startups, allowing them to develop products with less capital and receive grower feedback. Reservoir is also hosting its first conference, Ruggedize, focusing on deeptech robotics for agriculture. The company is committed to accelerating technology that improves resilience for specialty crop growers, focusing on software-enabled hardware, automation, and precision application.
Why It's Important?
The expansion and partnership highlight the growing importance of robotics in agriculture, particularly as the industry seeks alternatives to chemical-based crop protection. By providing a platform for startups to innovate and test new technologies, Reservoir is helping to drive advancements in farm robotics that could reduce reliance on chemical inputs. This shift could lead to more sustainable farming practices and potentially lower costs for growers. The involvement of Western Growers, which represents over 2,000 growers, underscores the industry's interest in these technologies and their potential to transform agricultural practices.
What's Next?
Reservoir plans to continue its expansion with the new campus and further develop its incubator program. The partnership with Western Growers will allow Reservoir to prioritize specific crops and work with various agricultural commissions to tailor agtech solutions. The upcoming Ruggedize conference will provide a platform for further collaboration and innovation in the field of agricultural robotics.
