What's Happening?
Keysight Technologies has received a Hybrid eCall certification from DEKRA, validating its test solutions for automotive emergency communications. This certification, aligned with the EN 18052:2025 standard, ensures that in-vehicle systems can dynamically
switch between legacy 2G/3G networks and modern 4G/5G networks based on availability. As older cellular networks are phased out, automakers are under pressure to implement packet-switched eCall systems that function across diverse network environments. DEKRA's validation confirms that Keysight's solutions cover the entire safety ecosystem, including emergency call setup, vehicle location data transmission, voice communication quality, and network fallback capabilities. This certification builds on Keysight's previous EN 17240 validation, providing automakers with a consistent compliance reference as international eCall standards evolve.
Why It's Important?
The certification of Keysight's Hybrid eCall systems is crucial for the automotive industry as it navigates the transition from older cellular networks to newer technologies. Automakers face significant compliance challenges as they must ensure that emergency communication systems remain operational across varying network infrastructures. Keysight's certified solutions offer a reliable testing methodology, helping manufacturers avoid compliance bottlenecks and deployment delays. This development is particularly important as it supports the global scaling of connected vehicle platforms while adhering to stringent safety standards. The certification not only enhances the reliability of emergency systems but also boosts consumer confidence in the safety features of modern vehicles.
What's Next?
Keysight Technologies plans to participate in the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) NG-eCall Plugtests 2026. This industry event aims to verify multi-vendor interoperability using commercial infrastructure, further solidifying Keysight's role in advancing automotive safety standards. As the automotive industry continues to evolve, manufacturers will likely focus on integrating these certified systems into their vehicles to meet international safety and compliance requirements. The ongoing development and testing of these systems will be critical in ensuring that automakers can seamlessly transition to newer network technologies without compromising safety.
