What's Happening?
Pizza Hut is bringing back its popular 90s BOOK IT! program, aimed at encouraging children to read during the summer by rewarding them with free Personal Pan Pizzas. The program, now called 'Summer of Stories,' allows children from Pre-K to 6th grade
to earn digital Reading Award Certificates, redeemable for pizza, by reaching reading milestones. Enrollment for the program began on May 1, and it will run from June 1 to August 31. The revival has sparked excitement among Gen X and Millennials, many of whom fondly remember participating in the program during their own childhoods.
Why It's Important?
The return of the BOOK IT! program highlights the enduring appeal of nostalgia in marketing, particularly among Millennials and Gen X. By tapping into fond childhood memories, Pizza Hut is not only promoting literacy among children but also engaging with adult consumers who have a sentimental connection to the program. This strategy could enhance brand loyalty and drive sales, as nostalgic marketing often resonates strongly with consumers. Additionally, the program encourages reading and learning, aligning with educational goals and potentially benefiting children's development.
