What's Happening?
Sky Sports has entered into a multi-year agreement with Jake Paul's Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) to broadcast women's boxing events in the UK. This partnership will see MVP stage two all-women's boxing events annually in the UK, with Sky Sports also
broadcasting select US shows. The inaugural event, MVPW-01, is scheduled for April 5 in London, featuring a lightweight unification fight between Caroline Dubois and Terri Harper. The deal aims to enhance the visibility and commercial potential of women's boxing globally.
Why It's Important?
This partnership represents a significant step forward for women's boxing, providing increased exposure and opportunities for female fighters. By aligning with a major broadcaster like Sky Sports, MVP aims to elevate women's boxing to a broader audience, potentially increasing viewership and sponsorship opportunities. This could lead to greater financial support and development for female athletes in the sport, contributing to gender equality in boxing.
What's Next?
The first event under this new deal, MVPW-01, will take place on April 5 in London. Following this, MVP plans to host additional events in the UK and the US, with the next scheduled event, MVPW-02, set for April 17 at Madison Square Garden. These events will be crucial in assessing the partnership's impact on women's boxing and its reception by audiences.
