What's Happening?
Bear’s Buddies Animal Foundation, a hospice and palliative care sanctuary for companion animals on Vancouver Island, has launched a fundraising campaign to raise $70,000 by May 7. The funds are needed to secure the land title of their 22-acre property
in Qualicum Beach. Founded by Dr. Kimberly Atkinson-Spinks, the sanctuary provides a permanent home and comprehensive care for senior, medically fragile, and unadoptable animals. The foundation has already invested over $500,000 and secured an additional $900,000 in funding. However, unexpected construction costs have created a funding gap. The sanctuary also plans to develop additional facilities, including a dog daycare, a mobile veterinary clinic, and eco-tourism camping.
Why It's Important?
The fundraising effort underscores the challenges faced by animal welfare organizations in securing sustainable operations. Bear’s Buddies Animal Foundation plays a crucial role in providing end-of-life care for animals that might otherwise be neglected. The success of this campaign could ensure the continuation of their services and inspire similar initiatives. The development of additional facilities could also enhance community engagement and support for animal welfare. The campaign highlights the importance of community support and the potential impact of individual contributions in sustaining non-profit organizations.
