Master Boat Builders, Inc. has announced the successful launch of the Jill, a new tugboat, as part of its ongoing collaboration with Gulf LNG Tugs of Port Arthur, LLC. This partnership includes Bay-Houston

The Jill is the sixth and final vessel in the Rapport 2800 tugboat series, designed by Robert Allan Ltd., and is the last of two identical vessels specifically crafted for Gulf LNG operations. The tugboat measures 92 feet in length, 40 feet in beam, and boasts a bollard pull capacity exceeding 85 metric tons. It is equipped with firefighting capabilities that meet the ABS Fire Fighting Vessel 1 (FFV1) classification, enhancing safety during terminal support operations. Both tugboats for Gulf LNG are scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2026.
Why It's Important?
The launch of the Jill represents a significant advancement in the U.S. maritime industry, particularly in the realm of LNG operations. The collaboration between Master Boat Builders and Gulf LNG Tugs underscores the importance of innovation and safety in maritime services. The introduction of these high-performance vessels is expected to enhance operational efficiency and safety standards in LNG terminal support, which is crucial given the increasing demand for LNG as a cleaner energy source. This development not only strengthens the capabilities of the Gulf LNG partnership but also highlights the role of U.S. shipbuilders in advancing maritime technology and safety standards.
What's Next?
With the delivery of the Jill and its sister vessel expected in early 2026, the focus will likely shift to their integration into Gulf LNG operations. The successful deployment of these tugboats could set a precedent for future collaborations and innovations in the maritime industry. Stakeholders, including the Gulf LNG partners and Master Boat Builders, will be monitoring the performance and impact of these vessels closely. Additionally, the maritime industry may see increased interest in similar high-performance, safety-focused vessels, potentially leading to further advancements and partnerships.
