Honda has announced plans to sell a China-made electric vehicle (EV) in Japan under the Insight name, marking a significant shift in its production strategy. This move aims to fill a gap in Honda's Japanese EV lineup, which currently includes only two
kei segment vehicles, the N-One e: and the N-Van e:. The new Insight is expected to offer a range of approximately 500 kilometers per charge, significantly outperforming Honda's previous standard-size EV, the Honda e, which was discontinued in 2024 due to its limited range of 259 kilometers. This decision also reflects Honda's strategy to utilize its existing Chinese production capacity to offset declining sales in China, where competition from domestic brands like BYD and Geely has intensified.
