What's Happening?
Foodservice operators are expanding their chicken-focused menu items with new formats and flavors. Zaxbys, a Southern restaurant chain, has introduced a line of chicken wraps featuring three chicken strips, a flour tortilla, mixed greens, carrots, and red
cabbage. The wraps come in varieties such as chicken bacon ranch, Buffalo blue, and Asian zensation. Meanwhile, Chili's Grill & Bar is enhancing its 3 For Me deal platform by adding the big crispy chicken sandwich, available in original, spicy, honey chipotle, Nashville hot, Buffalo, and deluxe varieties. Bojangles has also launched Bo's chicken rippers, a line of chicken sliders that combine their Bo bites chicken nuggets with potato rolls and various dipping sauces.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of these new chicken menu items reflects a broader trend in the foodservice industry to innovate and diversify offerings to attract customers. As competition in the fast-food sector intensifies, chains like Zaxbys, Chili's, and Bojangles are seeking to differentiate themselves by offering unique and flavorful options. This strategy not only aims to capture the interest of existing customers but also to draw in new patrons looking for variety and value. The focus on chicken, a versatile and popular protein, allows these chains to tap into consumer preferences for both taste and health-conscious choices.
What's Next?
As these new menu items roll out, customer reception will likely influence future offerings and marketing strategies. If successful, these innovations could lead to further experimentation with flavors and formats, potentially setting new trends in the fast-food industry. Additionally, other chains may follow suit, introducing their own unique chicken dishes to remain competitive. The ongoing 'chicken sandwich wars' could see new entrants and variations, further driving innovation and consumer interest in this segment.
