What's Happening?
Universal Genève, a renowned Swiss watchmaker, has announced the relaunch of its iconic Polerouter watch line. Originally designed in 1954 by Gérald Genta, the Polerouter was created for pioneering flights over the North Pole. The new collection stays
true to the original's design, featuring a curved dial and a patented crystal tension ring for water and dust resistance. The modern Polerouter line includes eleven models, divided into a permanent Prêt-à-Porter collection and six Capsule Editions. These watches are available in two sizes, 39 mm with a date display and 37 mm without, and come in stainless steel or 18-karat rose gold. Dial options range from classic black, blue, and brown to a pearlized mother-of-pearl version. The Capsule Editions offer bolder designs with dials in bull’s-eye, lapis lazuli, or tiger’s eye.
Why It's Important?
The relaunch of the Polerouter line marks a significant moment for Universal Genève, as it seeks to blend its storied past with modern design and technology. This move could reinvigorate interest in the brand, attracting both vintage watch enthusiasts and new customers. The preservation of the original design elements, combined with contemporary updates, highlights the brand's commitment to maintaining its heritage while appealing to modern tastes. This relaunch could also influence the luxury watch market by setting a precedent for other brands to revisit and modernize their classic models.
