What's Happening?
China Aircraft Services Limited (CASL), a Hong Kong-based MRO provider, plans to launch an aircraft disassembly and dismantling business to facilitate the flow of used serviceable material (USM) sales in and out of China. CASL is working to obtain regulatory
approvals and aims to begin pilot teardown projects in August. The company plans to harvest parts under its Part 145 certification and transport them to a dismantling site for further processing. This initiative is part of a broader effort to address supply chain challenges and meet the growing demand for USM in China.
Why It's Important?
The launch of CASL's aircraft disassembly operations is significant as it addresses the increasing demand for USM in China, driven by supply chain challenges and extended aircraft lifespans. By facilitating the flow of USM, CASL aims to enhance the availability of parts for airlines and traders, supporting the maintenance and repair needs of the aviation industry. This initiative also aligns with China's efforts to proactively address supply chain issues and support the growth of its aviation sector.
What's Next?
CASL plans to conduct three disassembly projects this year, with the potential to increase to 25 or 26 projects annually. The company is also exploring options for a parts-trading platform tailored to Hong Kong, which could further enhance the distribution of USM. As the demand for aircraft teardowns in China is expected to grow, CASL's operations will play a crucial role in meeting this demand and supporting the aviation industry's maintenance needs. The company will continue to work on obtaining necessary regulatory approvals and developing its dismantling and recycling capabilities.
