A new study published in Brain Communications suggests that 20 minutes of cardio exercise can boost memory by increasing brain ripple activity. These ripples, brief bursts of synchronized activity in the hippocampus, are associated with processing and
reinforcing memories. The study involved 14 patients with drug-resistant epilepsy, who showed increased brain ripple activity after moderate-intensity cycling. The research indicates a link between higher heart rates and greater ripple activity, suggesting that more intense workouts may enhance memory-related brain functions.
