What's Happening?
Agratas, the battery division of the Tata Group, has completed the main steel structure at its Sanand battery manufacturing facility in Gujarat, India. This milestone keeps the project on track for production by 2027. The facility spans 700 meters in length
and 150 meters in width, with a height of 34 meters, covering a built-up area of 105,000 square meters. The construction involved over 24,000 tonnes of steel and engaged more than 2,500 skilled workers at peak times. The project is executed by Tata Projects in collaboration with Tata Consulting Engineers and various steel contractors, emphasizing domestic supply chains and sustainability.
Why It's Important?
The Sanand facility is crucial for India's goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2070 and expanding its non-fossil fuel energy capacity. With an annual capacity of 20 GWh, the facility will produce advanced battery cells for electric vehicles and energy storage, supporting India's transition away from fossil fuels.
