The Royal Shakespeare Company has announced the premiere date for 'The Mad King', a stage prequel to the popular 'Game of Thrones' series. The production will begin performances at Stratford-Upon-Avon’s Royal Shakespeare Theatre on July 20, with an official
opening on August 8, and will run through September 5. The play, written by Duncan Macmillan and directed by Dominic Cooke, is inspired by the 'Robert’s Rebellion' lore from George R. R. Martin’s book series. It explores the events leading to the downfall of House Targaryen, focusing on the romance between Prince Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark, which sparks a rebellion led by Robert Baratheon.
