What's Happening?
New Zealand marine technology company Vessev is expanding into the Australian market by introducing its electric hydrofoiling passenger vessels through the Enautic Group. The VS-9, Vessev's flagship model, is a 29-foot electric hydrofoiling catamaran
that offers a smooth, quiet ride with a cruise speed of 25 knots and a range of up to 50 nautical miles. This vessel consumes up to 90% less energy than traditional vessels of similar size. The VS-9s will initially operate on Perth's Swan River, focusing on premium tourism experiences such as wine cruises and private charters, with future plans to introduce commuter routes. The first vessels are expected to be delivered in early 2027, and Vessev is working with local regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with all requirements.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of Vessev's electric hydrofoiling vessels in Australia represents a significant step towards sustainable marine transportation. These vessels offer a more energy-efficient alternative to traditional boats, potentially reducing the environmental impact of water-based transport. The expansion into the Australian market could set a precedent for other regions to adopt similar technologies, promoting a shift towards greener transportation solutions. Additionally, the focus on tourism and potential commuter routes could enhance local economies by attracting more visitors and providing faster, more efficient travel options.
