Vale has launched the 'Usina Modelo' facility in Itabira, Brazil, aiming to revolutionize mining efficiency, safety, and sustainability through advanced technology. The project, located in the city where Vale was founded 84 years ago, involved a comprehensive
transformation of the Conceição 2 plant. This transformation took approximately 1.5 years and included 51 improvement initiatives, integrating over 7,300 pieces of equipment and sensors into an automated infrastructure. The facility now uses AI-powered systems to monitor and optimize more than 400 production variables in real time. This initiative is part of Vale's strategy to create a safer, more predictable, and efficient production environment, as emphasized by Carlos Medeiros, Vale’s Executive Vice President of Operations.
