What's Happening?
The PhotoVogue Festival is returning to Milan for its tenth anniversary, taking place from March 1 to 4, 2026, at the Biblioteca Nazionale Braidense. This year's theme, 'Women by Women,' focuses on the diverse ways women express and represent themselves,
challenging the notion that women's rights and visibility are secure. The festival aims to highlight women's agency in shaping visual culture, moving beyond traditional gender perspectives. The event will feature a central exhibition with works from 45 artists selected from a global open call, exploring the complexities of womanhood. Additionally, the festival will include exhibitions from East and South East Asian artists, a curated selection of books, and a program of moving-image works by female and queer directors.
Why It's Important?
The PhotoVogue Festival's focus on women by women is significant in the current political and cultural climate, where women's rights and identities are increasingly contested. By providing a platform for women to define their narratives and shape visual culture, the festival affirms women's vision as a powerful force. This event not only celebrates women's contributions to the arts but also challenges dominant visual paradigms, promoting a more inclusive and diverse representation in the media. The festival's alignment with Vogue Italia's March issue further extends its impact across print and digital platforms, reaching a broader audience and fostering global conversations about women's representation.
