What's Happening?
On International Women's Day, Agraya GmbH emphasized its commitment to gender equality in agriculture. The company highlighted the significant contributions of women in global agricultural supply chains and the challenges they face, such as limited access
to land, financing, and technology. Elmè Coetzer-Boersma, CEO of Agraya, stressed the importance of women in building resilient farming communities and supporting food security. Agraya plans to further support women through initiatives like the Agraya Changemaker Awards, which recognize women's leadership in agriculture. The next awards ceremony will be held in Bologna, Italy, as part of the AGRAYA SUMMIT 2026.
Why It's Important?
The recognition of women's contributions in agriculture is crucial for promoting gender equality and enhancing the sector's sustainability. Women play a vital role in food production and rural development, yet they often face systemic barriers. By acknowledging and supporting their efforts, organizations like Agraya can help unlock innovation and strengthen agricultural value chains. This initiative not only empowers women but also contributes to the long-term viability of agricultural systems, which is essential for global food security and economic stability.
What's Next?
Agraya will continue to support women in agriculture through the Changemaker Awards and other initiatives. The awards encourage projects that highlight women's contributions and address the barriers they face. Applications for the 2026 awards are open until May 15, 2026. The focus will be on fostering collaboration and innovation to create more resilient and transparent agricultural value chains. This ongoing support aims to enhance women's visibility and leadership in the sector, ultimately contributing to a more equitable and sustainable agricultural industry.
