Gateway Jax has announced a partnership with Marriott International and The Indigo Road Hospitality Group to open Hotel Merrydelle, a Marriott Tribute Portfolio hotel, in Downtown Jacksonville. The hotel will be part of the Pearl Square development, a nine-block
mixed-use neighborhood. The building, originally opened in 1924 as luxury apartments and recognized on the National Register of Historic Places, will undergo a $50 million renovation. The project aims to blend the building's historical elements with modern design, offering 109 boutique hotel rooms managed by The Indigo Road Hospitality Group. The hotel will feature public spaces with local art, a coffee counter, and a restaurant by Steve Palmer, founder of The Indigo Road. The development will also include 1,250 residential units and 200,000 square feet of retail space.
Why It's Important?
The development of Hotel Merrydelle is significant as it represents a major investment in Jacksonville's urban core, potentially revitalizing the area and attracting more visitors and businesses. By preserving historical elements while introducing modern amenities, the project aims to enhance the cultural and economic landscape of Downtown Jacksonville. The involvement of major players like Marriott and The Indigo Road highlights confidence in the area's growth potential. This project could serve as a catalyst for further development in the region, boosting local employment and tourism.
What's Next?
The renovation is set to begin in the spring, with the hotel expected to open in 2027. As the project progresses, stakeholders will likely monitor its impact on local real estate values and business opportunities. Community engagement and response will be crucial in shaping the project's integration into the local cultural and economic fabric.
