Beta Technologies, a Vermont-based startup, is advancing the electric aviation industry with its Alia CX300 aircraft. The company recently conducted a demonstration flight, showcasing the aircraft's capabilities to media representatives. The Alia CX300,
which can carry five passengers and one pilot, is powered by rechargeable battery packs providing around 250 kWh of energy, allowing for a range of approximately 390 miles under ideal conditions. The aircraft is designed for short regional routes, aiming to replace small fuel-powered turboprops and helicopters, thus offering a cleaner, quieter, and more cost-effective travel option. Beta Technologies has already secured orders from carriers like Air New Zealand and plans to begin revenue-cargo flights under a Transportation Department pilot program. Full certification is anticipated by late 2027.
