What's Happening?
Bezeq Israel Telecom has started deploying a high-speed Internet subsea cable intended to connect Europe to Asia. This project aims to alleviate congestion in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical passage for global broadband. The deployment, expected to take
two years, involves a 500 million shekel investment and will include additional subsea cables. Bezeq's initiative positions Israel as a key digital hub, enhancing connectivity between continents and providing redundancy for existing routes.
Why It's Important?
The deployment of this subsea cable is crucial for improving global Internet infrastructure, particularly in regions reliant on the Strait of Hormuz. By providing an alternative route, Bezeq enhances the resilience and capacity of international broadband connections. This project not only strengthens Israel's position as a digital leader but also supports global economic growth by facilitating more reliable and faster Internet access. The initiative reflects the increasing demand for robust digital infrastructure to support the growing needs of the digital economy.
