The Hollywood Casino in downtown Aurora is set to close on June 10, 2026, as it prepares to transition to a new $360 million land-based location in the city. The new casino, located along Farnsworth Avenue and Bilter Road, is scheduled to open on June 24,
2026. This new facility will feature a casino floor accommodating approximately 1,200 patrons, a hotel, several restaurants, an event space, and a spa. The original riverboat casino, which opened in 1993, was initially required by state law to be on a floating vessel. Over the years, the laws changed, allowing for land-based casinos. The new location is expected to employ around 700 people, doubling the current staff at the riverboat site. The city of Aurora has supported the new development with a $50 million upfront payment, to be reimbursed through a tax increment financing district.

In the interim, patrons are encouraged to visit other nearby casinos operated by PENN Entertainment, such as Hollywood Casino Joliet and Ameristar East Chicago.
