What's Happening?
Globe Metals & Mining has started construction at its Kanyika Niobium Project in Malawi, transitioning from feasibility studies to project execution. The initial construction phase includes upgrades to access roads, bulk earthworks, drainage and stormwater controls, fencing, site security, water infrastructure, and the establishment of a construction camp. This development follows a pre-development collaboration agreement with Sinomine International Engineering. Globe Metals will reimburse Sinomine for direct costs and pay a fixed monthly management fee for project management services.
Why It's Important?
The commencement of construction at the Kanyika Niobium Project marks a significant milestone for Globe Metals, as it moves from planning to execution. This project
is expected to contribute to the global supply of niobium, a critical mineral used in steel production and other industrial applications. The collaboration with Sinomine International Engineering provides Globe Metals with the expertise needed to advance the project efficiently. The project's success could enhance Globe Metals' position in the mining industry and contribute to economic development in Malawi.
What's Next?
Globe Metals plans to continue with the construction and development of the Kanyika Niobium Project, with a Bankable Feasibility Study due in March 2026. The company will focus on meeting its mining license obligations and advancing the project towards full construction and production. The partnership with Sinomine is expected to facilitate the project's progress, ensuring that it remains on schedule and within budget. Globe Metals will also work on downstream oxide qualification to enhance the project's value.
