Sonair, a leader in ultrasonic 3D sensing technology, is set to debut its ADAR (Acoustic Detection and Ranging) sensor at the Modex 2026 event in Atlanta. This innovative sensor allows autonomous machines to perceive their surroundings using sound rather
than light, providing true three-dimensional spatial awareness. Developed at the SINTEF research institute in Norway, ADAR uses MEMS-based transducer arrays to detect people and objects in real-time, offering a reliable sensing layer for safety-critical decisions. Unlike optical sensors, ADAR's ultrasonic sensing is unaffected by lighting conditions or reflective surfaces, making it ideal for busy environments like warehouses and factories. The technology is already in serial production, having been integrated into Cleanfix's RA660 Navi XL autonomous floor-cleaning robot.
