Billy Corgan, founder and frontman of the Smashing Pumpkins, has partnered with the Lyric Opera of Chicago to create a new opera inspired by the band's album 'Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.' The opera, titled 'A Night of Mellon Collie and Infinite Sadness,' marks the album's 30th anniversary. Corgan's wife, Chloe Mendel, along with her father Gilles, runs the House of Gilles, which has designed the wardrobe for the opera's performers. The collaboration also includes Simon Ungless, known for his work with Lee Alexander McQueen. The opera features unique costumes, including classic tailcoats and suits with screen prints, handcrafted pleated gowns, and metallic threads. The House of Gilles will also launch limited-edition hand-painted
hoodies and T-shirts to coincide with the opera's premiere.
