What's Happening?
American Express and Delta Air Lines have announced new benefits for their co-branded credit cardholders, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of their partnership. The updated perks include a complimentary second checked bag on U.S. domestic Delta flights
for most cardholders, excluding the Delta SkyMiles Blue American Express Card. Additionally, Delta Gold and Delta Gold Business cardholders will receive a $120 annual ride-hailing credit, distributed as up to $10 in monthly statement credits. These enhancements come without an increase in annual fees, a notable decision in the current credit card market.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of new benefits without raising annual fees is significant in the credit card industry, where fee increases are common. This move by Amex and Delta is likely to enhance customer loyalty and attract new cardholders, particularly frequent travelers who can benefit from the added perks. The timing of these changes, ahead of the summer travel season, is strategic, as it aligns with increased travel activity. The decision reflects a broader trend of credit card companies enhancing value propositions to remain competitive and retain customer bases.
