What's Happening?
The long-vacant Kmart building in Round Lake Beach is set to be demolished to make way for a new Target store. This development marks a significant economic milestone for the area, as the 190,000-square-foot facility has been empty since December 2013.
The site, previously considered an eyesore, will now undergo revitalization as part of the Rollins Crossing Shopping Center project. Mayor Scott Nickles has been advocating for this transformation to create a vibrant downtown area for the village.
Why It's Important?
The transformation of the former Kmart site into a Target store is crucial for the economic revitalization of Round Lake Beach. This project is expected to stimulate local economic growth by attracting more shoppers and potentially increasing property values in the area. It also addresses the issue of vacant commercial properties, which can detract from community aesthetics and economic vitality. The new Target store is anticipated to create jobs and provide a boost to local businesses by increasing foot traffic.
