What's Happening?
Kieshöhe, located within the Bonya Rare Earth District in Namibia, has shown potential as a significant rare earth discovery. An initial assessment by Kendrick Resources revealed an average total rare earth oxide (TREO) grade of 1.51%, with high-value
light rare earth elements like neodymium and praseodymium. The analysis was conducted on seven historical drill holes, all of which ended in mineralized carbonatite or associated rare-earth-bearing dykes, indicating the system remains open at depth. The findings suggest that Kieshöhe's grades rank within the upper quartile of comparable hard-rock rare earth projects globally. Kendrick Resources is intensifying exploration and drilling activities at Kieshöhe and its flagship Teufelskuppe project, aiming to define a combined resource capable of supporting a significant rare earth development.
Why It's Important?
The discovery of Kieshöhe as a potential major rare earth site is significant for the global rare earth market, which is crucial for various high-tech industries, including electronics, renewable energy, and defense. The high-grade findings at Kieshöhe could position Namibia as a key player in the rare earth sector, potentially reducing global reliance on existing major producers. For Kendrick Resources, the development of Kieshöhe alongside Teufelskuppe could enhance the company's strategic importance and market value. The potential establishment of Bonya as a major source of critical minerals could attract investment and foster economic growth in the region.
