What's Happening?
The Metropolitan Museum of Art is set to host its first exhibition dedicated to the works of abstract expressionist artists Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner. Titled 'Krasner and Pollock: Past Continuous,' the exhibition will run from October 4, 2026, to January
31, 2027. It will feature over 120 works from more than 80 lenders, highlighting the artists' careers and their impact on modern art. The exhibition aims to present both artists as equals, showcasing their individual contributions to the art world while exploring their shared experiences and influences.
Why It's Important?
This exhibition marks a significant moment in art history, as it not only celebrates the individual achievements of Pollock and Krasner but also reexamines their contributions within a broader cultural context. By presenting their works together, the Met aims to challenge traditional narratives that have often overshadowed Krasner's contributions due to her association with Pollock. The exhibition also reflects the Met's commitment to highlighting diverse artistic voices and reinterpreting modern art through fresh perspectives. It offers an opportunity for new audiences to engage with the works of these influential artists and understand their lasting impact on contemporary art.
