What's Happening?
Filmmakers Shoojit Sircar and Vikramaditya Motwane have collaborated to present 'Thursday Special,' a short film by Varun Tandon. Sircar, known for directing films like 'Piku' and 'Vicky Donor,' praised
the film's simplicity and storytelling, comparing it to his unreleased feature 'Shoe Bite.' The film, which explores themes of love and companionship, recently won the Most Poetic Film Award at Serbia's Küstendorf Film Festival 2025. It stars Anubha Fatehpuria and Ramakanth Dayama as an elderly couple whose relationship is centered around their shared passion for food. Tandon, who has made over 15 short films, expressed his long-held desire to bring this story to life.
Why It's Important?
'Thursday Special' highlights the power of storytelling in cinema, focusing on overlooked narratives and the beauty in mundane life. The film's success at international festivals underscores the global appeal of such intimate stories. For Sircar, the film's themes resonate with his own work, suggesting a broader trend in cinema towards exploring deeper, more personal stories. This collaboration also showcases the potential for short films to achieve critical acclaim and reach diverse audiences, potentially influencing future filmmaking trends.
