What's Happening?
Cleveland Browns linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah will miss the entire 2026 NFL season after being placed on the reserve/physically unable to perform list for the second consecutive year. Owusu-Koramoah has
been sidelined since October 2024 following a neck injury sustained during a game against the Baltimore Ravens. The injury occurred when he collided with Ravens running back Derrick Henry, resulting in hospitalization. Despite being released with movement in all extremities, Owusu-Koramoah has not returned to play. The Browns had previously signed him to a three-year extension worth up to $39 million in August 2024. Drafted in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft from Notre Dame, he was a Pro Bowl selection in 2023.
Why It's Important?
Owusu-Koramoah's absence is a significant blow to the Browns' defense, as he was a key player with a record of 308 tackles, 40 tackles for loss, and eight sacks over 49 games. His injury highlights the physical risks associated with professional football, particularly for defensive players. The Browns will need to adjust their defensive strategy and possibly seek additional talent to fill the gap left by his absence. This situation also underscores the importance of player health and safety protocols in the NFL, as teams must balance competitive performance with the long-term well-being of their athletes.
