What's Happening?
Mammoth Freighters has received supplemental type certificate (STC) approval from the FAA for its Boeing 777-200LRMF cargo modification. The converted aircraft is certified with a payload of 231,000 lb. and a range of 4,800 nm. The first delivery is expected
to Qatar Airways Cargo, with additional orders from DHL and Ethiopian Airlines. Mammoth is also working on a 777-300ERMF modification, with certification expected by the end of 2026. The company faces challenges in sourcing suitable airframes due to a decline in widebody aircraft deliveries.
Why It's Important?
The FAA's approval of Mammoth Freighters' 777-200LRMF conversion is a significant milestone in the cargo aviation industry. This development allows Mammoth to offer a high-capacity freighter option to airlines, addressing the growing demand for air cargo services. The conversion program is particularly timely as global trade continues to recover post-pandemic. However, the challenge of sourcing suitable airframes highlights the ongoing supply chain issues in the aviation sector. The success of this program could influence future aircraft conversion projects and impact the availability of cargo aircraft in the market.
