What's Happening?
Barilla is set to expand its manufacturing operations in the Town of Avon, New York, with a significant investment of $145 million. This expansion will occur in two phases and is expected to create over 90 new jobs in Livingston County. The project includes
the construction of a new 52,000-square-foot production building, which will house a new production line and three packaging lines. Additionally, a separate warehouse facility will be built to support storage and distribution operations. The expansion reflects Barilla's continued growth in the U.S. market and its long-term commitment to the region, where it has been operating since 2007. The Avon facility, initially backed by a $75 million investment, currently supports approximately 145 jobs.
Why It's Important?
This expansion is significant as it underscores Barilla's commitment to the U.S. market and the local community in Avon. By increasing its production capacity, Barilla aims to meet the growing consumer demand for its products while maintaining a focus on quality. The investment is also expected to strengthen Barilla's North American supply chain and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by an estimated 3,000 tons annually. Furthermore, the project aligns with New York's efforts to grow advanced manufacturing and support regional economic development, as highlighted by New York Governor Kathy Hochul. The expansion is supported by various local and state entities, including Empire State Development and the New York Power Authority.
What's Next?
The first phase of the expansion project is expected to be completed by March 2028. As the project progresses, Barilla will continue to work with local and state partners to ensure the successful implementation of the expansion. The company will also focus on fulfilling its job creation commitments, which are tied to the support received from the Excelsior Jobs Tax Credit Program. As Barilla enhances its production capabilities, it will likely continue to innovate and evolve to meet the needs of its U.S. customers, while maintaining its commitment to quality and sustainability.
