What's Happening?
Karen Robinovitz, co-founder of Sloomoo Ink, has launched a new children's book series inspired by her personal journey with slime. The series, written by Melissa de la Cruz and Mike Johnston, begins with 'Sloomoo: Making Friends,' which tells the story
of Daisy, a science-minded child who creates her own Sloomoo. The book aims to blend social-emotional learning with adventure, reflecting Robinovitz's own experiences of finding joy and creativity through slime. The Sloomoo Institute, a slime-centered interactive experience, has expanded to seven locations across the U.S., drawing inspiration from a social media trend of altering words with 'oo.' The book series is part of a broader media initiative by Sloomoo Ink, in partnership with Encantos and Macmillan, to explore various formats including animation.
Why It's Important?
The launch of the Sloomoo Ink book series represents a unique intersection of personal healing, creativity, and entrepreneurship. By transforming a personal experience into a business and cultural phenomenon, Robinovitz and her team are tapping into the growing market for interactive and educational children's content. The series not only aims to entertain but also to teach resilience, acceptance, and inclusion, which are increasingly important themes in children's literature. This initiative could influence the children's book industry by integrating real-world experiences with fictional storytelling, potentially setting a trend for similar ventures.
What's Next?
The first book in the series, 'Sloomoo: Making Friends,' will debut at a book signing event in Los Angeles, with additional events planned at other Sloomoo Institute locations. The team is exploring further book formats and animation ideas to expand the Sloomoo universe. This expansion could lead to increased brand recognition and a broader audience reach, potentially influencing future collaborations and media projects.
