What's Happening?
Vertical Aerospace has entered into a long-term partnership with Hyundai WIA, a subsidiary of Hyundai Corporation, to supply the landing gear system for its electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, Valo. Hyundai WIA will be responsible
for the end-to-end design and production of a bespoke landing gear system. The collaboration is supported by Stirling Dynamics, a UK-based engineering company with extensive experience in certified aircraft programs. This partnership is part of Vertical Aerospace's strategy to secure world-class suppliers as it moves towards the certification and commercialization of Valo. The agreement with Hyundai WIA adds to Vertical's growing list of key suppliers, which includes companies like Honeywell, Aciturri, Evolito, Syensqo, and Isoclima.
Why It's Important?
The partnership between Vertical Aerospace and Hyundai WIA is significant as it strengthens the supply chain for the development of Valo, an eVTOL aircraft. This collaboration highlights the growing interest and investment in urban air mobility solutions, which are expected to revolutionize transportation by providing efficient and sustainable alternatives to traditional vehicles. The involvement of Hyundai WIA, known for its advanced manufacturing capabilities, underscores the importance of having reliable and experienced partners in the aerospace industry. As Vertical Aerospace progresses towards certification, the successful integration of Hyundai WIA's landing gear system will be crucial for the aircraft's performance and safety, potentially influencing the broader adoption of eVTOL technology.
What's Next?
As Vertical Aerospace continues to advance towards the certification and commercialization of Valo, the focus will be on integrating Hyundai WIA's landing gear system into the aircraft. The collaboration with Stirling Dynamics will play a key role in ensuring the design meets the necessary standards for certification. The successful implementation of this partnership could pave the way for further collaborations in the aerospace industry, particularly in the eVTOL sector. Stakeholders, including regulatory bodies and potential customers, will be closely monitoring the progress of Valo's development as it moves towards commercial service.
