What's Happening?
Ivanhoe Electric is set to acquire a Crossover XRE Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) and a material handling system from the Robbins Company. This acquisition is intended to facilitate mine access development at the Santa Cruz Copper Project in Arizona, USA.
The TBM, previously used in Australia, will be refurbished and equipped with a 9.3m-diameter cutterhead. The project aims to enhance efficiency and safety during the decline development phase. The final purchase agreement is expected by the end of May 2026, with the TBM's arrival and assembly scheduled for early 2027.
