What's Happening?
Axel REE has reported a significant achievement in rare earth recovery at its Caladão project in Brazil, with a recovery rate exceeding 96% from acid leach testwork. Conducted by the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO), the tests utilized hydrochloric acid on samples from the project site. This marks a substantial improvement over previous methods, enhancing the extraction of magnetic rare earth oxides. The project, which hosts a large inferred mineral resource, is focusing on in-situ recovery (ISR) using magnesium sulphate, while the acid leach method remains a viable option for future exploration.
Why It's Important?
This development is crucial for the rare earth industry, as it demonstrates a more efficient method of extracting valuable
minerals, which are essential for various high-tech applications. Axel REE's success could influence the global supply chain of rare earth elements, potentially reducing dependency on traditional mining methods and enhancing sustainability. The project's progress may attract further investment and interest in rare earth exploration, impacting economic and technological sectors reliant on these materials.
