What's Happening?
Prego, known for its pasta sauces, has introduced a new recording device called the Connection Keeper. This device is designed to capture conversations during family dinners, promoting smartphone-free interactions. Developed in collaboration with StoryCorps,
the device resembles a puck and records conversations onto a 16GB microSD card. It can store up to eight hours of audio and includes prompts to encourage discussion. The recordings can be transferred to a StoryCorps portal, which offers privacy controls. The device will be available for purchase at $20, with sales starting on April 27.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of the Connection Keeper highlights a growing interest in fostering meaningful, technology-free interactions among families. By partnering with StoryCorps, Prego is tapping into a cultural movement that values preserving personal stories and conversations. This device could appeal to consumers seeking to enhance family time and preserve memories. Additionally, it raises questions about privacy and consent, as users must ensure all participants agree to be recorded.
What's Next?
With only 100 units available, the device is expected to sell quickly. If successful, Prego may consider expanding production or developing similar products. The collaboration with StoryCorps could lead to further innovations in how personal stories are recorded and shared. Consumers will need to navigate privacy considerations, especially if they choose to upload recordings to public archives.
