What's Happening?
The University of Southern Indiana (USI) and Amcor have launched a collaborative project aimed at providing students with practical experience in consumer packaging while tackling industry challenges. This initiative involves seven students working alongside faculty mentors and Amcor industry experts to develop innovative packaging solutions. The project will span a semester, during which students will create business cases, value propositions, and proofs of concept for specific packaging solutions. Amcor specialists will guide the students through product development, design, marketing, and sustainability processes, with final projects being reviewed by Amcor leaders.
Why It's Important?
This partnership highlights the growing trend of industry-academic collaborations
aimed at fostering innovation and workforce readiness. By engaging students in real-world projects, USI and Amcor are not only addressing current industry challenges but also preparing the next generation of professionals with the skills needed in the packaging sector. Such collaborations can enhance the regional talent pool, support economic development, and drive innovation in sustainable packaging solutions. The project also underscores the importance of integrating academic research with industry needs to create impactful solutions.
